Rajasthan Royals exit

Amit Mishra dealt Rajasthan Royals' qualification chances a huge blow with a stifling spell of legspin bowling that sucked the momentum out of the Royals' innings. Royals only managed two fours in their final ten overs to finish on 126 for 8, tying their lowest score of the season.

In the Powerplay overs, Deccan Chargers had been their usual woeful self, putting down three catches to reprieve each of Rajasthan's top three. The season's second-highest run-getter, Ajinkya Rahane, was dropped in the first over by wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel, but Chargers weren't made to pay as Dale Steyn had Rahane edging to slip in the next over.

Mahela guides Delhi into playoffs

Delhi Daredevils 140 for 5 (Jayawardene 56*, Awana 3-22) beat Kings XI Punjab 136 for 8 (Hussey 40*, Yadav 3-21, Aaron 2-19) by five wickets

Mahela Jayawardene's half-century may have been the slowest for Delhi Daredevils this season but it was compiled under trying circumstances and helped his team become the first side to qualify for the playoffs. Jayawardene's composure under pressure ensured that an incisive fast-bowling performance from Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav, which restricted Kings XI Punjab to a middling total, was not in vain. With a place in the top four secure, Daredevils need to win only one of their last two games to secure No. 1 position.

Chennai win yet another thriller

Chennai Super Kings 160 for 5 (Hussey 56, Narine 2-14) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 158 for 6 (Gambhir 62, Jakati 2-26) by five wickets

With Chennai Super Kings needing five runs to win off the final delivery, Rajat Bhatia, who had bowled MS Dhoni and conceded only four from the previous five balls, bowled a full toss. Dwayne Bravo, who had missed a heave off the fifth ball, heaved again, and this time he hit the ball high into the night sky. Kolkata Knight Riders' captain Gautam Gambhir, fielding in the circle, kept his eyes fixed on the ball as it began its descent, and grimaced as he watched it fall agonisingly out of reach of his fielder at long-on, and just over the boundary. The Super Kings were out of the dug out, craning their necks to see where the ball landed, and once they saw it was a match-winning six, there were several streaks of yellow speeding to embrace Bravo. He was standing there with arms aloft, having taken Super Kings to No. 4 with only one league game remaining.

Sharma halts Knight Riders' winning streak

Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have moved up to the third slot with 16 points from 13 outings. With Saturday's victory, Mumbai Indians have won seven out of eight matches against the Knight Riders. Chasing a stiff 183-run target, Knight Riders had a disastrous start losing their skipper and the in-form Gautam Gambhir (0) in the very first over, while Pragyan Ojha got the better of Manvinder Bisla (1) off the next.

RCB thrash Mumbai

Mumbai: With just 142 needed for a win, Royal Challengers Bangalore's Chris Gayle massacred Mumbai Indians' bowling to help his team register a solid 9-wicket win, here on Wednesday.

While Bangalore's bowlers were nothing short of venomous to begin with, reducing a famed Mumbai batting to smithereens, Gayle was even better as he raced to his fifty off 36 balls and carried on with his innings till the nail was driven firmly through the opposition.

The Jamaican had a brief but aggressive opening partnership worth 48 with Tillkaratne Dilshan (19 off 25). Although the final margin fails to reflect it, there was a lull in the chase once Dilshan was removed by Pragyan Ojha. Dilshan's revenge though appeared that of Gayle.

Ojha was hoisted for three massive and consecutive sixes in the 11th over and from there, Gayle whacked spin and pace with equal intensity.

AB de Villiers blasts RCB to Win

Royal Challengers Bangalore 185 for 5 (Dilshan 71, de Villiers 47*) beat Deccan Chargers 181 for 2 (Dhawan 73, Harris 47, White 45) by five wickets

Last year it was Chris Gayle for Royal Challengers Bangalore, this year it's AB de Villiers. Another fiery, match-winning hand from him transformed the game in a matter of three overs, revived Royal Challengers' campaign, left Deccan Chargers shell-shocked and entertained a home crowd during one of the most dominant periods the bat has enjoyed over ball this season. Chargers clearly had the upper hand when Tillakaratne Dilshan fell after a half-century, their relatively inexperienced bowling attack punching above its weight. But de Villiers brought them down to earth and reserved special treatment for his South Africa team-mate Dale Steyn in a game-changing 18th over.
