Malinga powers Mumbai to thrilling victory

Mumbai Indians 159 for 7 (Malinga 37*, Ashwin 2-23, Raina 2-6) beat Chennai Super Kings 158 for 4 (Hussey 81, Dhoni 22*) by three wickets with 1 ball remaining

With half the side in pavillion for just 63 by the 10th over, it was almost all over for Mumbai Indians. But there comes an unlikely hero, Malinga who notched a swooping 37 runs of 18 balls that put Mumbai Indians into a spectacular victory against Chennai Super Kings.

MI had started with a tremendous innings with Hussey scoring 81 which took CSK to a fighting total of 158 runs. Replying to this, MI stumbled at 106 for seven in the sixteenth over. Then came skipper Harbhajan singh and Malinga’s partnership which added 53 runs in 4.4 overs and seized the game from CSK with one ball to go to finish with.

Hussey played a beautiful innings and sacrificed his wicket at the fag end of the match. Suresh Raina added 18 runs when he was stumped by Jacobs. Then came skipper Dhoni who put in unbeaten 22 more runs to the total. For Mumbai Abu Nechim was the most flourishing bowler with two wickets, while Malinga and Kieron Pollard trapped a wicket each.

Blizzard smashed 39 runs in his quick 21 ball innings with Jacobs, scored 18 in his 15-balls knock. Then did Mumbai tripped with Rayadu, suman and Symonds scoring single digit runs which put MI into a lurch. With wickets falling at regular interval, Harbhajan-Malinga partnership in the end gave MI a believe it or not triumph. For Chennai, R Ashwin, Dwayne Bravo and Suresh Raina took two wickets each.

First ball of the last over bounced half way through Dhoni which went for two byes. Malinga hit the second ball to a fantastic four. Mumbai now needed six off four. Captain Harbhajan Singh gives finishing touch with a boundary in the end.
